It’s obvious to anyone living or working in Stouffville that the town just continues to grow – both in residents and economics. To give you a brief overview, according to Statistics Canada, the population has grown from 11,008 in 2001 to a projected 53,365 in 2021. Prior to the projection of population, the latest estimate is 38,650 with employment of 12,327.
But it’s not just people flocking to Stouffville to live as it’s also become a place to work and play, making it a bustling hub of opportunity. In fact, the Real Estate Investment Networks has listed Whitchurch-Stouffville as one of the top ten investment towns in Ontario.
In the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s business overview, there are some major proposed developments and new projects for the future that will only continue to grow this already booming town.
Some major developments include the Stouffville employment area, Gormley industrial area, major retail development on highway 48 and several residential developments that are allocated for 600 units in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
New projects that are underway or recently completed include the international pharmaceutical company Teva Canada; a 28,000 square foot building by Gottardo Group of Companies; office and industrial space on highway 48; an arena/fire hall complex; and continuous development of the downtown with the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertaining implementing a community improvement plan with its second season underway.
Agriculture makes up three per cent of the occupations in Whitchurch-Stouffville, whereas business construction and manufacturing make up 10 per cent and business services makes up 22 per cent.
